Biography

James graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Technological University Dublin in 2009 and began his career as a site engineer. He then relocated to Australia in 2011, working as a road pavement engineer for a respected Civil Engineering firm. Assuming leadership of the pavement team in 2012, he oversaw construction material testing, geotechnical and pavement investigations, and pavement rehabilitation design services. In 2017, he was appointed as the Pavement Technology Manager within a newly separated business unit. In the same year, he achieved a Masters of Pavement Technology with distinction from the Centre of Pavement Engineering Education in Sydney. Returning to Ireland in 2021, he joined McCurdy Associates Consulting Engineers Ltd as a Technical Director.

Throughout his professional journey, James has conducted technical due diligence on various projects, with a particular focus on whole of life planning and pavement recycling. He has worked on a range of projects, including local government roads, state highways, and specialised pavement projects such as airports, ports, and freight terminals. With over 10 years of experience, he has been responsible for overseeing pavement investigation, material testing, construction supervision, and providing pavement engineering services to clients including government agencies, contractors, material suppliers, developers, and design consultants.

As a chartered civil engineer specialising in pavement engineering and road asset management, James has shared his expertise through guest lectures at universities and industry events. He is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices for pavement design, construction, and maintenance, ensuring the best outcomes for his clients and the community.
